Medical Office Cleaning Checklist for Clinics and Dental Offices
Cleaning a medical or dental office isn't the same as cleaning a regular office. Patient safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements demand a more systematic approach. This checklist covers every area of a small clinic or dental practice.
Waiting Room & Reception
- Disinfect all seating surfaces, armrests, and shared tables
- Sanitize check-in counters, pens, clipboards, and payment terminals
- Clean and restock hand sanitizer dispensers
- Vacuum or mop floors, spot-clean carpet stains
- Empty trash and replace liners
- Clean glass doors and interior windows
Exam Rooms / Dental Operatories
- Disinfect exam tables, dental chairs, and headrests
- Clean and disinfect countertops, cabinets, and sink basins
- Wipe light handles, switches, and door handles with hospital-grade disinfectant
- Mop floors with appropriate disinfectant solution
- Restock gloves, paper towels, and soap dispensers
Note: Between-patient disinfection of instruments and clinical surfaces is your clinical staff's responsibility. Environmental cleaning by a professional cleaner is the end-of-day or overnight complement.
Restrooms
- Disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, and faucet handles
- Clean and polish mirrors
- Mop floors with disinfectant, paying attention to base of toilets
- Restock paper products, soap, and hand sanitizer
- Empty sanitary disposal units
Staff Break Room & Administrative Areas
- Clean and disinfect countertops, tables, and appliance exteriors
- Wash sink and faucet
- Empty trash and recycling
- Vacuum or mop floors
Important: Your Responsibility vs Your Cleaner's
Professional cleaners handle environmental cleaning — floors, surfaces, restrooms, common areas. Your clinical staff handles instrument sterilization, biohazard disposal, and between-patient operatory disinfection. A good cleaning company knows where that line is.
